Software Usage Instructions

Set the counting method: First choose the primary word count method. You can count by “Chinese characters + English words,” Chinese characters, English words, non-whitespace characters, or all characters.
Configure processing parameters: You can set Chinese reading speed, English reading speed, parallel processing count, and detail preview character count for reading time estimation and batch file processing.
Select text normalization options:
- Convert full-width to half-width: Standardize the format of numbers, letters, spaces, and common punctuation.
- Convert Traditional Chinese to Simplified Chinese: Convert common Traditional Chinese content before counting.
- Ignore whitespace in primary character count: When the primary count uses a character-based method, spaces, tabs, and line breaks are not counted.
- Ignore punctuation in primary character count: When the primary count uses a character-based method, punctuation marks are not counted.
Save common settings: Click the “Save Settings” button, and your commonly used counting parameters will be automatically restored the next time you open the tool.
Enter or select content:
- Direct input: Paste text to view Chinese characters, English words, characters, punctuation, paragraphs, sentences, encoded bytes, and reading time in real time.
- Batch files: Select files such as TXT, DOCX, PDF, RTF, PPTX, XLSX, ODT, and EPUB for batch counting.
- Sample data: Load sample Chinese manuscripts, mixed Chinese-English text, or batch files to quickly view the counting results.
Start processing: After confirming the settings and content, click the “Process Current Content” button to generate the statistical results.

FAQ

A: For mixed Chinese-English manuscripts, we recommend choosing Chinese characters + English words. If you only need to check the length of Chinese text, choose Chinese characters. If you need to control platform character limits, choose All characters or Non-whitespace characters.

A: Supported formats include TXT, MD, CSV, JSON, HTML, RTF, DOC, DOCX, PDF, PPTX, XLSX, XLS, ODT, EPUB, and SRT. The tool will attempt to extract text from legacy DOC files. If the content is not recognized completely, we recommend saving the file as DOCX and then counting it again.

A: In UTF-8, Chinese characters usually take 3 bytes, while English letters and numbers usually take 1 byte; in GBK, Chinese characters usually take 2 bytes. The two byte counts are useful for evaluating text size in different encoding environments.

A: Reading time is calculated based on Chinese and English reading speeds. By default, Chinese is estimated at 500 characters per minute and English at 220 words per minute. You can also adjust it manually based on content difficulty and reading context.

A: To keep the interface clean, the file list only displays the first 20 files. Files that are not displayed are still included in the statistics, and the exported CSV or ZIP report will include all processing results.

A: Yes. The results page supports exporting a CSV summary table and downloading a ZIP archive. The ZIP can include per-file TXT reports and extracted text. If duplicate file names are encountered, numbers are automatically appended to the file names to distinguish them.

A: No. Text and file statistics are processed on the current device, and the tool only reads the content to generate statistical results and export reports.
