Software Usage Instructions

Prepare data: The data must include three types of fields: time, topic, and value. You can paste a table directly, or import a CSV, TSV, Excel, or JSON file.
Read data: Click “Read Data and Continue”; the tool will display a preview of the first 20 rows. If multiple files are selected, the list will show only the first 20 files, but the remaining files will still be processed.
Set column mapping: Select the time column, topic column, and value column separately, and confirm that the data fields are mapped correctly.
Adjust chart parameters: You can set the title, subtitle, chart height, export width, display mode, curve mode, number of topics, sorting method, negative value handling, and color scheme.
Generate stream graph: Click “Generate Stream Graph” to view the preview. Hover over a stream area to view the time point, topic value, and percentage.
Filter topics: Click legend labels to hide or show the corresponding topics, making it easier to compare key data.
Export results: Supports exporting PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, and processed CSV. When generating multiple files one by one, you can download them as a ZIP package.
Save settings: For commonly used chart parameters, click “Save Settings” to continue using them the next time you open the tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: It is recommended to use the first row as the header, and the data should include at least a time column, topic column, and value column. Time can be months, dates, quarters, or regular categorical time points, and the value column should contain calculable numbers.

A: You can choose to merge them into one stream graph, or generate results file by file and download them as a ZIP. When processing files one by one, the result files will keep the original file names as much as possible; if duplicate names are encountered, numbers will be added automatically.

A: A stream graph usually expands around a center line, making its shape more suitable for showing rises and falls across multiple topics over time. A stacked area chart stacks upward from a zero baseline, making it more suitable for observing overall scale and composition.

A: Empty values will be treated as missing data. For negative values, you can choose in the settings to treat them as 0, take absolute values, or keep the values. When used for a topic stream graph, non-negative values are recommended for a more stable visual effect.

A: You can limit the number of topics to the top 6, top 8, or top 12, and the remaining topics will be combined into “Other.” You can also temporarily hide some topics via the legend to make it easier to focus on key trends.
