Instructions
Software Usage Instructions
- Enter the value to convert: Fill in the data size to be converted in “Input Value”. Decimals, large values, and scientific notation are supported, such as 1024, 1.5, and 2e6.
- Select the source unit and main result unit: Choose units such as bits, bytes, KB, MB, GB, TB, and PB from the unit list. The main result will be displayed first in the selected target unit.
- Select the conversion standard:
- Binary 1024: Suitable for system file sizes, memory capacity, KiB, MiB, GiB, and similar scenarios.
- Decimal 1000: Suitable for advertised hard drive capacity, traffic statistics, network speed, and similar scenarios.
- Set the display format: You can choose smart precision, fixed decimal places, thousands separators, regular numbers, or scientific notation to make results at different orders of magnitude easier to view.
- Use batch conversion: Switch to “Batch Conversion” and enter one value per line. Formats such as “1024 KB”, “1.5 GB”, and “800 Mb” are supported. The page only previews the first 20 lines; copying and exporting will include all results.
- Copy and export results: Click an individual result card to copy that item, click “Copy All Results” to copy the full list, or download a CSV table.
- Save common settings: After clicking “Save Settings”, the page will keep the conversion standard, units, precision, and copy format for easier use next time.
FAQ
A: A bit is represented by a lowercase b and is the basic unit of data; a byte is represented by an uppercase B, and 1 byte usually equals 8 bits. File sizes are usually expressed in bytes and their multiples, while network speeds are often expressed in bits and their multiples.
A: Base 1024 is commonly used when viewing system file sizes and memory capacity; base 1000 is commonly used for advertised hard drive capacity, traffic statistics, and network speed. The tool provides both standards so you can switch based on the actual scenario.
A: KB, MB, and GB may be calculated as 1000 or 1024 depending on the context; KiB, MiB, and GiB are binary units that explicitly increase by 1024. The tool displays KiB, MiB, and GiB in binary mode, and KB, MB, and GB in decimal mode.
A: Mbps means megabits per second, while MB/s means megabytes per second. Since 1 byte equals 8 bits, the theoretical speed of 100Mbps is about 12.5MB/s. Actual speed is also affected by the network environment, protocol overhead, and device status.
A: Hard drive manufacturers usually label capacity using base 1000, while systems may display it using base 1024. For example, 1TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes in decimal, which is about 931GiB when displayed in binary; the file system also uses some space.
A: Enter one value per line, in formats such as “1024 KB”, “1.5 GB”, “800 Mb”, or “512 MiB”. If no unit is entered, the default source unit set on the page will be used.
A: Yes. Lowercase b means bit, while uppercase B means byte. For example, Mb is megabit and MB is megabyte, a difference of 8 times. When entering batch data, it’s recommended to keep the correct capitalization.
