Software Usage Instructions

Set line number rules: First choose a numbering format. You can use plain numbers, numbers with dots, parentheses, square brackets, Chinese line numbers, Roman numerals, letter numbering, or a custom format.
Configure numbering parameters: Set the starting number, numbering step, separator after the number, full-line prefix, full-line suffix, and number of leading zeros.
Select processing options:
- Number blank lines too: When enabled, blank lines will also use line numbers; when disabled, blank lines remain unchanged.
- Skip existing line numbers: Suitable for processing text that already has numbering, avoiding duplicate additions.
- Number each file separately: During batch processing, each file starts from the specified starting number.
- Output encoding: You can choose to preserve the source encoding as much as possible, UTF-8, UTF-8 BOM, or GBK/GB18030.
Import text or files: You can paste text directly or batch select text files such as TXT, LOG, MD, and CSV. When multiple files are selected, the interface only displays the first 20, but processing will include all files.
Preview the result: Check in the preview area whether the numbering style, blank line rules, and text layout meet your needs.
Start adding line numbers: Click the “Start Adding Line Numbers” button, and the tool will process the text or files according to the current settings.
Download results: A single text can be downloaded as TXT; batch files will keep their original file names, automatically add numbers to distinguish duplicate names, and provide a ZIP download.

FAQ

A: Yes. After selecting multiple text files, the tool will process all files one by one and package the results as a ZIP download. The interface only displays the first 20 files, but files not shown will also be processed.

A: {n} is the line number placeholder and will be replaced with the actual number. For example, entering “Line {n}:” will output “Line 1:” and “Line 2:”; entering “[{n}]” will output “[1]” and “[2]”.

A: You can set this yourself. When “Number blank lines too” is enabled, blank lines will be numbered; when disabled, blank lines remain unchanged and will not consume the next number.

A: Leading zeros are used to align the number of digits, such as 001, 002, 003. When organizing logs, data lists, subtitle text, or batch-numbered files, using leading zeros makes line numbers neater.

A: The original file name is kept by default. If multiple files have the same name, the tool will automatically add a number after the file name to distinguish them; you can also choose to add a file name prefix or suffix in the settings.

A: Plain numbers, numbers with periods, numbers in parentheses, square brackets, Chinese “Line n” format, Roman numerals, letter numbering, and custom formats are supported. Custom formats can be used with prefixes, suffixes, and separators.
