Software Usage Instructions

Select DOCX files: Click the file selection area and choose one or more Word documents from which you want to extract images. Only the .docx format is supported. For older .doc files, it is recommended to save them as .docx first before processing.
Confirm the output format:
- Keep original format: Preserve the original image file data in the document.
- Convert format: Convert common bitmap images to JPEG, PNG, or WebP format.
- Quality settings: When selecting JPEG or WebP, use the quality slider to control output file size and image quality.
Set naming rules:
- Document name_serial number: Suitable for organizing images by document source.
- Document name_original image name: Suitable for preserving internal image names while distinguishing their source.
- Keep original image name: Use the internal DOCX image file name. If duplicate names occur, numbers will be added automatically.
- Custom prefix: Generate image names using a custom prefix and serial number.
Select save method:
- Separate folder per document: Place images from each Word document into a separate folder for easy source tracking.
- Merge all images into one folder: Put all images in the same directory, suitable for centralized material organization.
Configure filtering and manifest: Set a threshold to skip small images and filter out icons, decorative lines, and other small files; you can also generate a CSV manifest to record document status and output paths.
Start extraction and download: Go to the “Extract & Download” step and click “Start Extraction.” After processing is complete, you can preview the first 20 images and click “Download ZIP” to save all results.

FAQ

A: Currently, the .docx format is supported, which means documents saved by Word 2007 and later. Older .doc files have a different structure, so it is recommended to save them as .docx using Word or compatible office software before use.

A: The tool can extract embedded image files from DOCX documents, including JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, WebP, ICO, SVG, EMF, and WMF. Common bitmap formats support preview, while some vector or special formats will be exported as original files.

A: Format conversion depends on whether the image can be decoded by the current device. Common bitmap formats such as JPG, PNG, BMP, and WebP can usually be converted; special formats such as EMF, WMF, and ICO may not be convertible. We recommend enabling “Keep original images when conversion fails” to avoid missing files.

A: Save in separate folders creates a separate directory in the ZIP for each Word document, which is useful for preserving source relationships during batch processing; Save merged puts all images in the same directory, which is useful for organizing materials in one place. If images have the same name, numbers will be automatically appended to distinguish them.

A: Possible reasons include: no embedded images in the document, images referenced as external links, abnormal document structure, small images skipped by the filtering threshold, or the file not being a standard DOCX. Try turning off “Small image filtering” or lowering the threshold and then try again.

A: Existing results will not be overwritten. The tool generates file names according to the naming rules. If duplicate names appear in the same ZIP directory, numbers will be automatically appended to the file names, such as image.png, image_2.png, and image_3.png.

A: Image extraction and format conversion use memory and CPU resources. We recommend processing large files in batches and reducing the number of documents selected at the same time. If you only need to export the original images, you can choose “Keep original format,” which usually uses fewer resources than format conversion.
