When only writing DPI, JPG, PNG, and BMP will update metadata where possible to reduce recompression; when pixel size changes, canvas resampling is used.

JPG writes EXIF resolution and JFIF density; PNG writes pHYs physical pixel density; BMP writes pixels per meter.

Format notes

WebP has no standard DPI reading method. When outputting WebP, pixel results are kept and noted in the processing table. GIF is regenerated from the first frame; TIFF can be processed only if the browser can decode it.

Software Usage Instructions

Select image files: Click the "Select image files" button and choose the images whose DPI you want to change. Supports JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and other formats, and allows batch selection of multiple files.
Set the target DPI:
- Use the slider or enter a value directly to set the target DPI (72-600)
- Common values: 72 (web display), 150 (standard printing), 300 (high-quality printing)
Select the processing mode:
- Modify DPI information only: Changes only the DPI metadata without changing the actual image dimensions
- Modify DPI + adjust resolution: Adjusts the actual pixel dimensions of the image based on the DPI ratio
Configure output settings:
- Select the output format (keep the original format or convert to a specified format)
- Adjust JPEG quality (only valid for JPEG format)
- Optionally add a DPI suffix to the file name
Start processing: Click the "Start changing DPI" button, and the tool will automatically process all images.
Download results: After processing is complete, you can preview the first 12 images. Click "Download all results (ZIP)" to download all processed images.

FAQ

A: Modify DPI information only changes only the image metadata. The image looks exactly the same, but its print size will be calculated using the new DPI; Modify DPI + adjust resolution actually changes the pixel dimensions of the image. For example, when adjusting from 72DPI to 300DPI, the image will become about 4 times larger.

A: Modify DPI only: Suitable for images that already have appropriate dimensions and only need their print specifications changed; Modify DPI + resolution: Suitable when you need to actually enlarge or reduce an image, such as converting a web image (72DPI) to a print image (300DPI).

A: 72DPI: web display, electronic screens; 150DPI: standard document printing, home printers; 300DPI: high-quality printing, commercial printing, photo printing; 600DPI: professional printing, detailed images.

A: DPI-only mode will not affect sharpness because the pixels do not change; in DPI + resolution mode, enlarging an image may reduce sharpness, while shrinking an image usually does not affect sharpness. This tool uses high-quality algorithms to maintain image quality as much as possible.

A: No. All image processing is done locally on your device. Image files are not uploaded to the server, ensuring your privacy and data security.

A: Common image formats such as JPEG, JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF are supported. You can keep the original format for output or convert it to a specified format. Note: Some formats (such as GIF) may not fully support DPI information.

A: The way DPI information is stored and read may vary between different software. Some software may not read or may not display DPI information correctly. We recommend testing in the target software to confirm whether the DPI setting takes effect.

A: Modifying DPI requires a certain amount of memory and CPU resources. Recommendations: 1) Process large numbers of files in batches; 2) Close other programs that use memory; 3) For very large images, consider reducing the size before processing; 4) Use the "Modify DPI only" mode for faster processing.
