Tool Usage
Return to old versionSuitable for network testing, VM setup, development mock data, and bulk samples. A fixed prefix keeps the prefix's address type.
Parameters
Tip: generate samples with “Locally Administered Unicast” first. To simulate a vendor or virtualization platform, use a fixed prefix.
Instructions
Software Usage Instructions
- Set the quantity to generate: Enter the number of MAC addresses you need to generate. Supports both small test samples and bulk address lists.
- Select the address type:
- Locally administered unicast: Suitable for virtual machines, test networks, and development mock data.
- Globally administered unicast style: Generates styled addresses based on globally administered bits; does not represent real vendor assignments.
- Locally administered multicast: Suitable for multicast rules, filters, or protocol learning samples.
- Fully random: Does not adjust the first-byte flag bits, generating freer random samples.
- Set the prefix source: You can choose a random prefix, a common virtualization platform prefix, or enter a custom prefix. Custom prefixes support 1 to 5 groups of hexadecimal bytes.
- Configure the output format: Choose colon, hyphen, dot, Cisco, space, or no separator format, and set uppercase or lowercase display.
- Select the suffix strategy:
- Random suffix: Suitable for generating scattered test addresses.
- Incrementing suffix: Suitable for generating sequential samples, making script or spreadsheet verification easier.
- Generate and view results: Click “Next: Generate Results”. The tool will generate MAC addresses according to the parameters and display a preview. When there are many records, only the first 300 are previewed, while copy and download still include all results.
- Copy or export: You can copy all results or download TXT, CSV, or JSON files; for frequently used configurations, click “Save Settings” for easier use next time.
