1Choose cover matching method

Single cover Use one cover for all MP4s. Best for brand videos, course sets, and shared intros. Match by file name Match videos and images with the same name, e.g. video.mp4 with video.jpg.

2Choose processing method

Embed cover Write the image to the MP4 cover track without re-encoding the video stream. Ideal for thumbnails and media library covers. Overlay on video Overlay the cover image on the video for a set time range. Good for visible badges or opening displays.

Embedding a cover copies the original video and audio streams and only adds a cover image track; the output filename defaults to the original MP4 name, with a number appended on duplicates.

Software Instructions

Select MP4 videos: Add one or more MP4 files in “Media Selection”. The list shows the first 20, but all files will be included in the actual processing.
Select cover mode: A unified cover is suitable when all videos use the same image; matching by file name is suitable when each video has a cover image with the same name.
Upload cover images: In unified cover mode, select one image; in matching mode, select multiple images, for example lesson-01.mp4 corresponds to lesson-01.jpg.
Set the processing method: Embedding the cover writes it to the MP4 cover track; overlaying on the video displays the cover at the specified position and time range in the video frame.
Adjust output parameters: You can set the cover fit mode, image encoding, long-edge size, JPEG quality, overlay position, opacity, margin, display duration, video quality, and ZIP file name.
Save settings: After clicking “Save Settings”, the tool will automatically restore your commonly used parameters the next time you open it.
Start processing and download: After entering “Process & Download”, click “Start Adding Cover”. Once completed, you can preview some results and download all results as a ZIP.

FAQ

A: Embedding a cover writes the image to the MP4 file as a cover track, which is suitable for media library thumbnails; overlaying on the video makes the cover image appear in the video frame, suitable for corner badges, intro displays, or visible watermark-style covers.

A: The cover image name must match the video name, excluding the extension. For example, course-01.mp4 can match course-01.jpg, course-01.png, or other common image formats.

A: Result files use the original MP4 file names by default. If duplicate file names are encountered, a number will be appended to distinguish them, and all results can be packaged as a ZIP for download.

A: Not necessarily. The tool provides three fitting methods: crop to fill, fit with margins, and stretch to fill. You can also set the cover’s long-side size and margin background color.

A: Common reasons include file corruption, abnormal encoding structure, unreadable cover images, insufficient memory caused by oversized files, or incompatibility between overlay parameters and the video encoding. You can reduce the cover size, switch to embedded cover mode, or process files in batches.

A: Embedded cover mode tries to copy the original video and audio streams, so the image content is usually not re-encoded. Overlay mode needs to regenerate the video frames, and you can choose the quality and encoding speed according to your needs.
