Software Usage Instructions
- Select an input method: Choose “Major Radius/Minor Radius,” “Inner/Outer Radius,” “Inner/Outer Diameter,” or “Reverse Parameters” based on the known values.
- Enter dimension parameters: Enter the corresponding radius, diameter, volume, or surface area values, and select the length unit.
- Set decimal places: Choose the number of decimal places to keep in the results for easier engineering records or drawing checks.
- Use sample data: Click the O-ring, annular tube, or drawing diameter example to quickly view calculation results for different input methods.
- Start calculation: After clicking “Calculate,” you can view the volume, surface area, centerline length, tube cross-sectional area, inner and outer radii, and inner and outer diameters.
- Save and export: You can save the current settings for next time; you can also copy the calculation results or download the torus diagram.
FAQ
A: The major radius R is the distance from the center of the torus to the center of the tube cross-section; the minor radius r is the radius of the circular tube cross-section. The volume formula is V = 2π²Rr².
A: Select the “Inner/Outer Diameter” mode, enter the outer diameter Do and inner diameter Di, and the tool will automatically convert them as R = (Do + Di) / 4 and r = (Do - Di) / 4.
A: Please make sure all input values are greater than 0, and that the converted major radius R is not less than the minor radius r. If the outer radius is smaller than the inner radius, or the outer diameter is smaller than the inner diameter, calculation will also fail.
A: The volume formula is V = 2π²Rr², and the surface area formula is A = 4π²Rr. Here, R is the major radius and r is the minor radius.
A: When the target volume or target surface area is known, and one of the radii is also known, you can use reverse parameter mode to solve for the other radius. It is suitable for preliminary size calculations and design comparisons.
A: They are applicable to approximate toroidal structures, such as O-rings, ring-shaped tubes, lifebuoy-shaped parts, and torus models. If the cross-section is not circular, use the corresponding cross-section model for recalculation.
