Instructions
Software Usage Instructions
- Select known values: Choose “base edge + height,” “base edge + slant height,” “base edge + lateral edge,” or “base edge + volume” to calculate based on the data you have.
- Enter parameters: Enter the base edge length and the corresponding parameter, and select a length unit such as mm, cm, m, in, ft, or yd. All length parameters must use the same unit.
- Set result options: Select the result unit and calculation precision, and enable material density to estimate weight if needed.
- Use sample data: Click “Geometry Homework,” “Building Sketch,” “Packaging Capacity,” or “Reverse Height” to quickly fill in sample parameters, then modify them as needed.
- View calculation results: After clicking “Calculate Results,” you can view the volume, base area, lateral area, surface area, slant height, lateral edge, base diagonal, and estimated weight.
- View formula steps: After checking “Show Formula Steps,” the derivation process for the base area, volume, lateral area, surface area, and lateral edge will be displayed.
- Save and export: Click “Save Settings” to keep the current parameters; click the copy or download button to copy the results or generate a calculation report.
FAQ
A: The volume formula for a regular square pyramid is V = a² × h / 3, where a is the square base edge length and h is the vertical height from the center of the base to the apex.
A: The slant height is the distance from the apex to the midpoint of a base edge and is used to calculate the lateral area; the lateral edge is the distance from the apex to a base vertex and is often used to check structural edge lengths.
A: Select the “base edge + volume” mode, then enter the base edge length and target volume. The tool will automatically calculate the vertical height using h = 3V / a².
A: Yes. Surface area = base area + lateral area; the base area is a², and the lateral area is the sum of the areas of the four triangular side faces.
A: The slant height must be greater than half the base side length, and the lateral edge must be greater than half the base diagonal; otherwise, a valid regular square pyramid cannot be formed.
A: Weight estimates are suitable for material quantity planning, model making, and engineering sketch calculations. The result is obtained by converting the volume to cubic meters and multiplying it by the material density. Actual weight may also be affected by hollow structures, waste, and material variations.
